Our Sangha this month is one I am very excited about because the main focus of the evening is Kirtan! I love Kirtan it just makes me feel so good. We all know the amazing feeling we get from singing, going to a concert, listening to music. We know that it makes us feel good and there are many studies that prove it's theraputic effect.
It's not a new concept. People have been making music for centuries. All cultures have musical traditions and India is no exception. Kirtan involves musicians and singers leading a group in a call and response of traditional mantras or chants in the very ancient Sanskrit language. You may not understand what you are repeating but it really doesn't matter as the sounds will lift your vibration and you will just feel better. When I first went to Kirtan I was so self conscious of my voice but it didn't take me long to start singing at the top of my lungs and loving every minute of it. So don't worry that you won't know the words or can't sing because it doesn't really matter!
Apart from the wonderful experience of Kirtan we are also going to her Alison, a lovely lady who I studied Ayurveda with, talk to us about her trip to Sri Lanka and her panchakarma experience. Panchakarma is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves a whole variety of cleansing and rejuvenating techniques specifically designed for each client based on their dosha and their doshic imbalances. Panchakarma is used to treat a whole range of illnessess and diseases and has been used in India for centuries with amazing results. It is something that I would love to experience so am really looking forward to Alison's talk.
And if all that wasn't reason enough we will have my wonderfully talented friend Tony Jackson treating us to one of his amazing meditations. I have been lucky enough to experience many of Tony's meditations and they are part meditation part healing. They are something not to be missed.
So please come along and join us in another wonderful night as we join together to sing, learn, share experiances and enjoy and evening of community.
